BA-F2 Removable Access Panel with Detachable Hatch and Drywall Insert
The BA-F2 Removable Access Panel with Detachable Hatch and Drywall Insert is an architectural access solution for finished walls and ceilings. The fully removable drywall panel provides easy access to plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems while remaining virtually invisible once installed and painted.
Constructed from high-grade aluminum, the frame and door are fully welded to create a strong, durable structure. A white foam perimeter gasket runs along the inside of the frame. The reveal between the inner and outer frame measures just 1/16", tight enough to blend cleanly into drywall or ceiling surfaces. Moisture- and mildew-resistant greenboard comes as standard, making it well-suited to damp or variable-humidity environments.
The hatch is fully detachable with an open hinge design, allowing it to be lifted out entirely for maintenance or inspection. Standard touch latches and safety chains keep it secure during normal use, and additional lock options—cam latches and cylinder locks—are available for projects that require extra security. It works with both ½" and ⅝" drywall, and is designed for non-rated walls and ceilings.

Why Should You Use the BA-F2?
- Almost Invisible When Installed: The 1/16" reveal and concealed hardware mean the panel disappears into the wall or ceiling once it's in place. There are no exposed frames or visible hardware to disrupt the finished surface.
- Easy to Remove and Reinstall: The fully detachable hatch lifts out completely, so you can access what's behind the panel quickly and put it back just as easily when you're done.
- Suitable for Damp and Variable Environments: Moisture- and mildew-resistant greenboard is standard, so it holds up in bathrooms, utility rooms, and other areas where humidity levels shift.
- Secure for High-Traffic Spaces: Touch latches and safety chains come standard. If your project calls for tighter security, cam latches and cylinder locks are available as add-on options.
- Scalable to Any Project Size: Single-leaf doors are available in custom sizes up to 73" for walls or 40" x 40" for ceilings. For larger ceiling openings, double-door configurations handle openings up to 80" x 36" without a center bar.
Installation Steps
- Identify the Location: Find the installation spot and note any nearby studs and joists. Measure the inside frame dimensions and add ¾" (9 mm) to each side for the rough opening size.
- Cut the Opening: Using a set square, draw two perpendicular lines on the wall or ceiling, positioning them 1¼"–4" (32–102 mm) from any stud or joist. Confirm all lines are square, then cut a clean opening with a drywall saw or utility knife.
- Fasten the Panel: Insert the access panel through the opening and pull it back firmly into place. Drive screws into the panel frame, spacing them no more than 4" (102 mm) apart.
- Test and Apply the Compound: Check that the door opens and closes properly, then apply drywall compound separately to the hatch and wall.
- Install the Safety Cable: Wipe the frame and door clean with a damp cloth, then install the safety cable.
